Why one pip is ten points, on everything
Two brokers quote gold at two and three digits. Any definition of a pip that depends on the instrument silently halves or doubles your stop when you move broker. Here is the worked example per asset class.

MetaTrader blocks outbound HTTP by default, and the resulting error is a bare 4060 or 5203. It is the single most common first-day failure in this product category, and it takes eleven seconds to fix.

If your alert says 0.10 lots, your risk changes every time your stop distance changes. Sizing from the stop keeps the loss constant and moves the lots instead — which is the way round most people actually want.
